City and Village Documents

Witness each step in the founding of the Village of Upper Arlington, and the later incorporation of the City of Upper Arlington, from the development of the Charter Commission to the framing of the Village Charter and its submission to voters. The historic Record of Proceedings of the Village (City) of Upper Arlington, Ohio, begins in June 1918, as members of our community petitioned the Ohio Secretary of State to incorporate the Village of Upper Arlington. The full transcript of this petition, the petitioners' names, and the creation of our Village Charter are just the first of many historical highlights in these valuable primary sources.

In the summer of 2011, the library formed a partnership with the City of Upper Arlington to digitally preserve and present the original minutes of the Village Commission and City Council. The library has digitized the first volumes of these historic documents, and new volumes will be placed online as they are completed.

Tips for using this collection

• To browse a chronological list of volumes of the Record of Proceedings of the Village (City) of Upper Arlington, Ohio, go to the Browse link in the navigation bar at the top of this page.
• To view the minutes from a particular year, click on the cover of the volume containing the desired year, then go to that volume's right-hand navigation panel and click the desired year to access its pages.
• To search for a name or exact phrase, click on the Advanced Search link to the right of the Search box at the top of each page, select the option to find results with "The exact phrase", enter the desired name or phrase in the box following this selection, and click Search. After opening a resulting volume, use the navigation panel to the right to move from one search result to the next within that volume.
• To adjust the zoom level, use the zoom and fit buttons located at the top of the image viewer.
• To increase the viewer area, click and drag its sizing handles at the bottom and right until the viewer reaches the desired size.
• To move an image within the viewer, click and drag on the image area.
